Harley Davidson in 1948 the 61 and 74 Cubic inch, Kucklehead valve engines received aluminum heads and hydraulic valve lifters, along with one piece chrome plated rocker covers which do look like shallow pans. This was the start of the Harley Panhead Engine. The popular Panhead lasted until 1966 and was replaced by the shovelhead. The impetus behind the development of the Harley-Davidson Panhead was the need to resolve oil leak issues experienced on the Harley-Davidson Knucklehead Engine. The Harley panheads have external oil lines inside the engine casing, and the oil pump regulates oil pressure. The new aluminum heads provided cooler engine performance. All paint and work has been expertly completed. The work is correct for the period and this machine has some very cool period accessories. The Harley Pan Head Old School Chopper has a new Front End, Custom Paint, Suicide Shifter is on bike and all linkage is in box so you can put back into regular Foot Shift, Kick Start, Many period Items and all receipts. The Harley Panhead is in excellent condition. No dings or dents. Customized where needed for a bobber. The owner has over $20,000 invested in this Panhead.
