Here’s the tip: You need to make each ad different. And you need to space out the placement.
Through the years, we have watched as very talented members place multiple classified ads. We have also watched as…well, not so talented members have attempted to do the same thing. The talented members place their ads for multiple products or services all at once, with each and every ad having a very unique title and description. Other talented members place similar ads, but change up the titles and descriptions quite substantially. These members spread their placement out and let them trickle into our site – one or two ads per day.
The not so talented members we referred to above slam our website with multiple identical ads all at once. When we head over to our manual ad verification tool to accept or reject each ad, our hair stands on end when we see this. Just imagine sitting down to look over a long list of identical ads waiting for approval. They all have the same title, they all have the same description and they all were placed on the same date.
A few things occur when this happens. We either simply delete the potential ads before they reach our main site or we even more simply delete the user’s entire account. If the member has been with us for some time and has placed quality ads in the past, we’ll temporarily suspend the account and send them an email asking them to clean up their act. We’ll even offer them some suggestions on how to do that (which this blog is helping with).
So, our advice to you is this: If you have hundreds or thousands of unique ads for substantially different products or services (with unique photos) and place them all at the same time, we welcome that. We’ll smile and approve them, as long as they meet our guidelines. If you have a large number of duplicate or similar ads you’d like to place, you should make them unique and trickle them in very, very slowly. If you have a large number of duplicate ads and attempt to place them all at the same time, we apologize but we’re not going to play ball with you. Visitors to our website who are looking for quality products and services are simply too important to us. Important as well are those members who take their time to place high quality, unique ads. They want to associate themselves with a high performing classifieds website, not a haven for spam.
